Furbearer Research Portal

Beaver, muskrat, and mink: fur-bearers that changed the world. Can you help us learn more about these species in the northeastern US?

As part of a National Science Foundation research we are studying the genetics, diet, and behavior of these three species. If you are a licensed trapper in Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, or Vermont, we would love to learn from your experiences engaging with these animals.

American beaver, Castor canadensis
Muskrat, Ondatra zibethicus
American mink, Neovison vison
